My crazy day
year 1 winner - Lucas L-1H
In the car on the way to school, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a black and white thing fluttering in the back of the car. I turned to look but it was gone.
I walked with my mum to put the bag down and it was there again. It waddled into my classroom I jumped onto the silver seat and peered through the window to see the thing jumping on Mrs Harris’ desk while she was working.
This thing was dancing and shaking its bottom, but I don’t think Mrs Harris could see it.
I went to Assembly and there it was again doing the silly dance next to Mr Whelan. It looked like a penguin, IT WAS A PENGUIN!!! The
penguin followed me around all day. No one else could see it, just me. He became very annoying. At recess, he tried to eat my banana and tied my shoelaces together while I sat, at lunch he tried to eat my sandwich, he ate all my snacks. He tried to take the ball away when I was playing handball with my friends; he tried to trip me all day.
In class he would sit on my lap and dance on my head while I was trying to do my work. I could not concentrate; I wanted the day to end.

subway surfer
year 3 winner - Liam 3R
One day in a busy city rail yard, a punk teenage kid from a bad neighbourhood
began spraying graffiti on the parked trains in the yard.
Suddenly... a police officer sprang out from behind one of the trains and made a grab at the punk. Without thinking the kid turned and ran along the tracks like his life depended on it. The police officer and his dog chased after him. Suddenly trains started to fly at high speeds towards the him who was forced to dodge and duck from side to side to avoid the terrible danger.
With the officer getting closer and closer and the trains whizzing past at scary speeds the punk used all his strength to jump on top of a passing train and get away to safety.
Exhausted he lay on a footpath breathing hard, his heart was racing. He had escaped and he was alive! He had learnt his lesson, right then and there the kid vowed never to graffiti ever again.

haunted house
year 4 winner - Michael 4L
It’s 12 o’clock am, I just saw a light come from next door. I wonder how? It has been there for 65 years and nobody lives there. I decide to go and check it out. As I am going into the shed to get a torch, I start to get goose bumps and wonder if this is a bad idea. If I never go there to check it out I will be scared every single night, so I might just go and face my fears.
As I am in front of the house and I keep seeing signs saying “keep out” and “go away” but I know someone is in there and I am going to find out who. As I am entering I am absolutely covered in cobwebs and the wood I am standing is creaking and I wonder if it will collapse so I step very carefully. Then I set off a booby trap, I realised that I did so I jump out of the way as the giant chandelier above my head crashes to the floor and the glass shatters everywhere. I start to think maybe I should just call the police, but as I try to dial the numbers my phone’s battery goes dead. I manage to pull myself together and decide to venture on upstairs and I creep around the corner ...
I am so frightened that I wake up and find myself in my bed drenched in sweat and realise it was only a nightmare.

the ripples
year 6 winner - Rachel 5/6K
Swiftly, as smoothly as silk, the ripple-maker had disappeared beneath the
surface of the river. It didn’t bother Myah; probably just another water nymph
playing. She kept on walking, noticing how the horrible green leaves on the
fire-trees had finally turned orange, and some of the early-birds had even
turned a dull red. Her secret walk in the forest was so beautiful. The birds had
come out, and had started to sing the world awake, and the light blue sun was
casting a purple, red-blue light on all the fire-tree. The ground was plush and
soft with the ferns that had fallen last night. Myah kept on walking, and once
again she saw a ripple appear, and disappear as quickly as it had come. She
suspected that Vibbix, her best friend, had gotten some of her friends to play a
joke on her, so she laughed. “ All right, I know you’re here. So come on
out,
and we can play!!” But no trees transformed into Bixi, or Kahmi, or
any of the other nymphs. Myah shrugged, and pushed it aside. Fine, we can
play this game a little longer, she thought. I’ll keep on walking.
So she headed to the Pearl-less Dazzle cliff, by following the river. Once
again, a ripple emerged and disappeared, but this time Myah only just saw it.
She puzzled over it for a few seconds, wondering, Who isdoing this
?, but when she had realised that she had arrived at the Pearl-less Dazzle
Cliff, her only thought was Wow.
The blue sun was
emitting it’s rays onto the diamond water, and the roar was spectacular!! Myah
counted only 17 pearls, and she remembered the time, hundreds of years ago, when
she counted 700 as a little girl. As she was admiring the spectrum of colours
the water made when the sunlight hit it, she saw a Shallow-Ended Red Falcon
glide over the forest top. It perched on a tree, cawed a piercing cry, then
soared away in to the sky. Then ominous charcoal grey clouds rolled in out of no
where, and red lightning struck. Rain began to pour down heavily, and Myah
hurried to the Slouchy Oaksdull, and coward beneath its foliage.
She huddled there, wrapping her long, thin, brown limbs
inside her thin black cardigan, and her usually-sleek black hair was wet, and
stuck to the side of her face. Her almost-invisible eyebrows were furrowed as
she thought about how she was going to get home. Myah sat down on the fallen
grey leaves, and leant against the tree-trunk, wishing that the storm would
stop, or her friends would find her, or something!
Then, that something came. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a set of black steps open,
descending into the earth. It was calling her, beckoning her to come. So Myah
went out into the pouring rain, and started walked down the stairs, thinking
about the ripples.
