Our reflections on creating this News website
Having Journalism with Mr Stevenson has helped me in many ways with my writing skills. I have learnt to be more persuasive with my text and about open and closed questions.... The part the I enjoyed the best was getting to interview Mrs Lawler, Mr Esposito, Mr French and the refugees that came to our school and told us about their experiences... I would recommend Journalism to others... because it is a very exciting experience to be a part of.

I learnt how you should ask questions. I also learned how a newspaper is made and how much more difficult it is than it looks. I liked it best when we acted out a roleplay.
I learnt how to make notes into a story, how to pick out the best information and make it into the most exciting piece. I also learnt what questions to ask in an interview. The best part of it was actually making the (web) page and looking at what I have done and accomplished. - Kaylen - Yr 5 I learnt how to write really good stories about real news around the world. - Katrina - Yr 6 I liked meeting people from the newspaper and the fun page the best. - Nathan - Yr 5 |
Some things that stood out were how to interview someone properly with the right kind of questions, keeping articles short and simple and how to edit properly.
- Moriah - Yr 6 I learnt how to be a journalist, by designing a website and interviewing and reporting on live events. - Joshua H - Yr 6 I learnt about the process of a newspaper and putting it together. I learnt how to shorten articles so only the improtant things are in the articles. - Amelia - Yr 6 I think I have improved by getting to the point. It has changed my style of writing. I liked the role plays best because they were fun and helped me learn to interview. They were engaging and I kept wanting to know what happened next. - Camille - Yr 5 |
I loved when we got to interview two refugees, Mr Esposito and Matthew French from the RSPCA.
- Matthew - Yr 6 I learnt how to edit other people's work and how to pick specific information.... (I would recommend it to others) because it is AWESOME! I learnt how to write and edit an article and developed new skills. - Vincent - Yr 6 I liked it best when the refugees came in and we interviewed them about how life was like for them. I recommend this unit of work to others because it is a fun and exciting experience. - Alex - Yr 5 |
I learnt about the RSPCA and what they do. I learnt about the skills you need to become a journalist.
- Aidan - Yr 5 I learnt about open ended and closed questions and how to write and edit reports. I learnt how to interview properly to get as much information as possible. - Rebecca - Yr 6 I would defintely recommend this to other students as we have learnt a lot of Journalism tips. - Lachlan - Yr 6 I liked going on the Year 4 excursion (as a journalist) and writing my story for the competition and the refugee visit. - Rachel - Yr 6 |
I would definitely recommend this unit to others because it is fun, but very hard at times. It is great working with professionals and listening to what they have to say.
_ Jenna - Yr 5 You get to improve your writing techniques. - Adrian - Yr 6 It is fun and gives you knowledge on how to write letters and persuasive texts. _ Emilija - Yr 5 This is an amazing experience and it teaches you so much about writing and photography. - Finn - Yr 6 You learn a lot of valuable information that will come in handy. - Jessica - Yr 6 |
